Galibi Nature Reserve

The Galibi nature reserve, founded in 1969, is located at the north east coast of Suriname. The reserve is about 40 kmĀ² and is located in the district of Marowijne.

The reserve was established to protect the sea turtles that use the beaches of Galibi as their breeding ground. Furthermore controlled ecotourism at Galibi is allowed, so people can see how beautiful yet also vulnerable sea turtles are.

Also two research stations were built to encourage research into the sea turtles and their ecosystem. Galibi is reached by boat from Albina.
